Electric Heat Rate
Northern Electric Cooperative offers a special heat rate to keep home heating affordable for members.
Electric Heat Rate
Northern Electric Cooperative offers an electric heat rate of .05 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for 240-volt electric space heating equipment. This rate is lower than the normal kWh energy charge to encourage responsible use of electric heat and keep costs low for consumers during the coldest months of the year.
The electric heat rate is calculated using a secondary meter - or submeter - that is installed by a Northern Electric member services representative.
Members should take the following steps to see if they qualify for the electric heat rate:
-
Call Northern Electric Cooperative at 605-225-0310 and speak with a member services representative.
-
The member services representative will review the account.
-
If a consumer qualifies for the electric heat rate following the review the member services representative will install a submeter at no charge to the consumer.
There is no charge to investigate or install a submeter at a service location, however, there is a $3 per month submeter charge for the equipment.
