One of the core cooperative principles is ‘concern for community,’ and Northern Electric Cooperative is in the business of making our communities better. The cooperative not only serves the community by providing reliable electricity at an affordable rate but as a cooperative the community is part of our membership. Consumers who receive electricity from Northern Electric are members who have a say in the day-to-day operations of the co-op.
The concern for community, however, stretches beyond serving our members. Northern Electric is involved in community events like National Night Out in Aberdeen, the Brown County Fair, local school parades and events, and every year around the holidays our employees collect toys and food for local charities.
Northern Electric Cooperative also offers two scholarships for local high school students every year in partnership with generation and transmission provider Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The co-op participates in the Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week program which honors local achievements of high school students. Northern Electric also makes thousands of dollars in donations to local organizations every year.
Making the community better is part of the business model at Northern Electric Cooperative.
