Northern Electric Cooperative powers nearly 4,500 members through its distribution lines and power facilities every day.
More than 70 years ago, Northern Electric began connecting rural portions of northeastern South Dakota to electricity for the first time shortly after electric cooperatives were organized nationwide in 1937.
Today, Northern Electric serves the modern-day power needs of residential, commercial, and industrial consumers throughout Brown and Spink counties. Commercial and industrial consumers in northeast South Dakota use about half of the electricity distributed by Northern Electric with residential and farm consumers making up the other half.
Nearly a third of the power Northern Electric distributes via Madison, South Dakota-based East River Electric Power Cooperative and North Dakota-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative, comes from renewable energy sources such as wind and hydropower. As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative Northern Electric is committed to its core values of integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to the community.
The main Northern Electric office is located in Bath, South Dakota, with a second office and shop located in Redfield. If you have any questions about service or need to report an outage feel free to contact us by following the link below.
